The difference between on-premise and cloud based is where your hardware, application and software reside. On-premise means that a company keeps all of this IT infrastructure onsite, which is either managed by themselves or a third-party. With the Cloud it means that it is housed offsite with someone else responsible for monitoring and maintaining it.
Premise Based- This option provides direct control over access control operations in terms of management and control, it does require the internal adoption of the platform as part of the user's responsibility for regular maintenance . Key components include a server running access control software, one or more computers running client software, readers, door locks, a master control panel . Complete on-premises security includes both physical and network security measures, especially if you need to stay within compliance.
Cloud Based- Cloud based refers to the set of procedures, technologies, policies, and controls that come together to protect information on cloud-based servers. It’s a centralized approach to security capable of protecting sensitive data, supporting compliance efforts, and setting authentication rules. Cloud-based access control enables you to remotely manage processes, such as adding or revoking user access, without requiring any hardware . For example, the administrator can manage the permissions from home, or while on vacation anywhere, simply by using a browser.
